Thanks bud, I think I was picking him in some single match SC comps and it was pain and suffering!

No worries mate, the first 3 guys to tag him weren't renowned taggers either (Schoenberg, Lachlan Ash and Rantall), I think he had just never seen tight attention before.

2019 - pre bye avg: 94, post bye avg: 96.22
2020 - avg to round 11: 117.3, avg after round 11: 132 (his last 6 games)

Is this random coincidence or is he a slow starter and fast finisher?

I recall he got heavily tagged round 1 v GWS by De Boer last year, very quiet first half but then got better as the game went on.

Lowest score of 91 for the year which happened twice in the first 7 rounds.

Durable/ loves tackling (which will be rewarded more this year) so doesn't rely purely on possessions to keep his score ticking over.

26 years old now so in the prime of his career, I think he is one of the safest midfield premiums you can pick, no real red flags sticking out to me.

I think it's a coincidence and not a trend but it's worth pointing out. I agree you can't go wrong with him, he is a complete freak and the only thing I see holding him back is him having to carry too much of a load and that eventually impacting him negatively.

What sort of average does he need and how much money does he need to make do you think to be a successful pick? we obviously get more points on field early in the season in the process but he’s still at an awkward price, 30k cheaper would be ideal

I’d be very happy with a 90-95 avg, I think he’s a chance to breakout to 100+ as well.

With a 90-95, he should make the usual 150k which we hope for, maybe more with a spike game.

Is Gaff ($496,600) worth considering as an underpriced player that could be a Keeper?
He will be 30 in June, played 21 games and averaged 91 last year (previous years avg.106,107,108)
Any reason he won't return to his higher scoring?

I think he can hit 85+ which would justify the price.

Caldwell reminds me of Hately, both 21yos, talented players, ex-GWS, but struggle to play AFL games.
Hately is only $188,700, worth monitoring his preseason based on "........the word is he arrived at the Crows (in 2021) with some injury issues and needed a good year to sort out his niggles....."

What are your thoughts on Parish as a starting pick? From round 6 he averaged 124 including that 10 game streak where he averaged 140!

The only potential downside I see is the amount of depth in the midfield but the same can be said for Macrae / Bont.

Any other reasons why I shouldn't be looking at him?

I’m generally very reluctant picking players (especially mids) after a massive breakout season.

Perhaps we can put in a shameless request to @Rowsus to refresh some of his previous analysis but traditionally only very few breakout players (who have had a +20ppg increase to a 102avg+ for the first time) each season can better their average in the next season. Parish averaged 114 last year, he’ll have to do something extremely exceptional to push that to 118+ or so and match the Macrae/Steele types (which doesn’t happen often in SC).

More likely to hover in the 108-110s, which isn’t a failure but probably not worth spending 600k+ for.

Caldwell struggles to play games in general and has done so since his TAC Cup days. Bombers showed enough faith to bring him in for an Elimination final against the Dogs having not played since Round 2! That to me speaks a lot about how highly we rate him internally.

In saying this, I'll no doubt chicken out & go Horne-Francis or some other better priced rookie, which would probably be the smarter play.

Good call I forgot about that gem. Just needed that reminder to not pick a POD just for the sake of something different!

Yeah completely agree that you can only have one. I think it comes down to who gets more of an inside mid role.
