So this where I'm at and yesvI know it will be a pretty common structure, lol

$139k ITB

Lloyd, Short, Ridley, Sicily, Milera, Wilmot (Gould, O'Driscoll)
Macrae, Steele, Neale, Rowell, JHF, Daicos, Hobbs, Maginness (Clark, Goatee, Trew)
Darcy, Grundy (Comben)
Dunkley, Martin, Heeney, Coniglio, Curnow Holland's (Pedlar, De Konig)

Ideally would get Rowell up to Oliver/Mitchell, but it's a long way up.

One means would be Martin to another MP forward such as Brodie (but really not sure about that though)

Happy with Overall structure, but not really with Rowell at M4
What if you lost one of your premium defenders - > Kiddy , does that give you enough to upgrade Rowell to Titch ?

If those cheap bench options are viable Round 1 , like that team and structure.

Yeah it does.

Not sure I want to go there, lol, but I guess sacrifices have to be made somewhere.

Would leave with $28,500 ITB:

Lloyd, Short, Ridley, Coleman, Milera, Wilmot (Gould, O'Driscoll)
Macrae, Steele, Neale, Mitchell, JHF, Daicos, Hobbs, Maginness (Clark, Goater, Trew)
Darcy, Grundy (Comben)
Dunkley, Martin, Heeney, Coniglio, Curnow, Hollands (Pedlar, De Konig)

Might be time to park it and wait for pre-season games to get more information ;)

Thanks for your feedback

I am trying to get :-

D: 2-Sicily-Milera & Kiddy
M: Macrae , Steele , Titch , Neale with Berry @ M5

Happy with my starting rucks and F1 - F5

But until D & F rookies are clear , all I am doing is fitting in players depending on their price which all seems largely pointless at this stage.

First year SCer (well I had a team last year, but it was entirely made of blokes with staches and I did not try and win anything). 54k in the bank.

Lloyd Whitfield Sicily
HYoung Coleman Chesser
(Skinner McDonagh)

Macrae Steele Neale Rowell
Berry JHF Daicos Ward
(O’Driscoll Parker Clark)

Darcy Grundy
(Hayes)

Dunkley DeGoey Butters
Rayner Coniglio Curnow
(Hollands Comben)

Young is someone I see as having boom potential but I also feel like I could do better. Still working all this out, I know I'm quite heavy on mid-pricers.

welcome to the page mate,
overall its a decent side and it is still early to say with mid-pricers if they have the potential or not but base on experience I prefer only taking a punt on just 1 mid pricer just incase if you were to have too many then you could fall behind the pack if they fail

Cheers. Thinking about dropping Berry to a rookie (Erasmus sounding like the goods) and upgrading Young to a premium. Tarryn Thomas may come in for JDG or Butters depending on pre-season form. I'm liking the look of a more rookie-dominant midfield given that there are quite a few rookie mids who should come in and play well early, and itallows me to put more money into the forward line.

I don't mind your structure, TBH an argument can be made for all of those MP's with Young being the one at his price that you'd want to be a keeper and I would think a 100-105 would be what you want out of him (others can correct me of they think I'm wrong there). So Coleman, Rowell (if he's scoring 95's), Berry, Rayner and Curnow would have to be classed as stepping stones, Cogs is a difficult one and I don't think we'll know his true role until Punchable comes back, even so at his price he should still make a bit of dosh playing a FWD role.

That would leave you with 10-11 upgrades IF Sicily, Young, Neale, De Goey, Butters and Cogs end up being inside the top 8-10 scorers on their lines. I would assume that Lloyd, Whit (a dangerous but potentially lucrative starting pick) Macca, Steele, Darcy, Grundy and Dunkley would be inside that group.

Those stepping stones (if they perform) are a great pathway to upgrade to the uber mids over 650k, I would think that JHF might get FWD status after rnd 6, same with Daicos getting DEF, so it's easy to swap them FWD and DEF and use Coleman, Rayner and Curnow with their withheld value into MID premos for probably 1 maybe 2 trades less per upgrade than what it would cost otherwise

Only 10 guys I think you'd be happy with in your side come end of season.

Each to their own of course but I want 12 minimum.
Gee, 12 is not easy to get to. Maybe that is around assumptions of rookie prices or who meets the requirements.

I can get to 9 plus Heeney/Butter or 10 including Whitfield + Butters.

Have had 12 include Heeney/Butters, just think it is cutting it thin on rookies.

I do agree Oscar may disappoint and would take Gresham down to De Koning and Oscar up - @francis

You are surely picking Whitfield, Heeney, Butters as keepers. I know I am.

This is a really good point on bench depth. It's likely that COVID wreaks havoc this year, every time someone from your bench can step up to avoid a donut you're going to be getting huge value on them.

Just being able to focus on the up/down cycle alone while picking up 40 odd points will have you well ahead of the pack. If it has even half the level of impact that I would expect then I think a lot of people are going to end up with the predicament of choosing between finishing their side and avoiding donuts throughout the season.

My singular focus on trade season will be staying on the upgrade tracks and not getting derailed or distracted by week to week noise.
Having these thoughts re bench depth and Covid, would you consider a ruck line of Darcy, Grundy and Preuss (assuming he gets the main ruck gig)? Or maybe a Jackson in the forward line?

After making the Berry and Young > Crisp and Erasmus switch, I have 12 hopeful keepers - Lloyd, Whitfield, Sicily, Crisp, Macrae, Steele, Neale, Darcy, Grundy, Dunkley, JDG, Butters. Mid-pricers are Rowell, Coleman, Coniglio, Rayner, and Curnow, and I reckon most of them will earn a bit of money. On-field rookies of Chesser (could substitute for Kemp or Sinn depending on who's playing), JHF, Daicos, Ward, and Erasmus all seem pretty likely. I say I'm pretty set on this side, though surely I'll be changing it another dozen times.

Bit of mid price madness, $300k in the bank, so a bit of room to move.
Rookies bench Def: Wilmer, Gould, Mids: Stephens, Erasmus, Clark, Ruck: Pruess, Fwd: Maginess, Pedlar

Loving the forward line, value +, Treloar had his lowest average by 12 in 7 years, Heeney had his lowest average in 4 years and Cogs had his lowest average ever! All have a quality history and in the forward line you probably need a 90-ish average to be a season keeper. All you'd imagine is doable with these guys.

Hope they are. I find Heeney/Whitfield interchange though. Would't put them in the premium level per se. Understand Whitfield has history of scoring well and getting injured. If I could I would take him up to someone else I will as there appears value even in higher priced players.

Are you going 3 or 4 premium midfielders to get to 12. Can see a chance I go 3 and then have Whits, Heeney, Butter and it makes 12 in the side.

Put together my first look at a team. Pretty bland as it stands. $58.7k in the bank.

Obviously a lot to go until Round 1, but will sit on this until pre-season games start.

Looks good overall, main thing I notice is no Daicos - 62% of coaches currently own him/ the most popular player picked so far.

Any reason for not picking him or just cash restraints?

I don't think Preuss is reliable bench depth, he may win the main ruck gig but Cameron showed last season with Flynn, Briggs & Mumford they were all in and out. A ruck roulette, the last thing I want to do is pay 80k extra and the week I need Preuss he's out.

Preuss is a tough one. If his JS looks solid and there's nothing below him, which is very likely right now, then he's a strong play for the cash generation. You wouldn't be picking him for cover as much as cash generation.

Quite simply, he made sense at his starting price last year for cash generation so he's an even better bet this year. Just no reason he shouldn't push towards 90 if fit as the #1 ruck with a strong midfield at his feet and he's absolutely shown he can score 110+ to be able to average that kind of area for a month and spike his price hard.

If he happens to provide cover it would be a big bonus.

Don't disagree at all with not trusting Cameron though, would need to look a pretty clear #1 for me and I'd only even remotely consider him as a starter if there was another rock solid option out there.
