I need to be strong I think and trust my gut on Cripps. I just don’t see how he fits into a top 8 midfielder by years end against Miller, Macrae, Steele, Oliver, Bont, Titch, Neale, Petracca, Brayshaw, Kelly and others who all have more rounded games and most if not all better durability. His last game of what was it, 80% de and 4 goals is going to be more the exception than the norm. I think his first match where he had something like 28 disposals and still didn’t crack the ton will be closer to his normal level.

Maybe I’m just trying to comfort myself but he’s a future headache one way or another and I can live with this one him not being in my initial team
I don't see him being top 8, but I think he can get a 110 average if he's fully fit (which he looks to be). I'd be happy with a 110 M8 at that price.

Stop copying my team! Exact same midfield. even the bench is the same.
It feels like there is a lot more commonality this pre-season, which is somewhat depressing. A lot of that is about the rookies (or lack thereof) but it just feels like everyone is heading towards the same structure. Not sure if it is site specific or competition wide. Based on the the ownership percentages, I suspect the latter. I guess all dedicated players frequent one or more sites/forums so end up being influenced in certain ways. These days, information is so readily available and the spread so fluid, it's getting more and more like the perfect market. Not sure if that's necessarily a good thing. In a way, the skill is now in the playing so that's probably one positive. I recall the first years of Dream Team in the 90s when you selected a starting team (hard copy form mailed in) and that was it. No trades, no captains, no loopholes. Just ride and die

I do wonder whether a few teams that end up backing the right cheaper rookies are going to make most of our setups look silly.

Yep, you never know which key best 22 player will get injured and miss 8 weeks, leaving a hole big enough for the 117k rookie that nobody wanted to play midfield and rack em up.

Pure chance but it does happen.

Definitely bad news for Brodie, albeit Fyfe rushing back with a busted shoulder is probably actually good news when it inevitably goes pop and he's out for 10+ weeks...

God this is a complex season.
Fyfe is probably one more shoulder way from retirement, really nothing else he can do with that mangled joint now if it pops out the front again with the way it's been put back together / patched up previously.

I don't have the stats from last or previous seasons but I don't recall seeing ownership percentages this high and concentrated. Daicos is the most selected at 74.1%. There are 6 players selected in more than 50% of teams and 14 in more than 40%. I may be wrong but to me that's unheard of.

Just scrolled through the 2021 thread and noticed I posted a team based on the most popular selections in Feb last year (post #7). I used to do this a bit back in the day. Didn't realise I revived it last season.

This is probably too big an ask but I have a vague memory of seeing a post along these lines and can't find it -

Does anyone have a list of SC scores (last year primarily, but earlier years would be great too) for MIDs sorted by team?

I.e.,

ADE
Laird 116
Keays 102
Sloane 97
Seedsman 95
Schoenberg 71

and so on ...

Having just done it I see it wouldn't take me that long, so might just do it myself and share. But if anyone already has it to hand I would be most appreciative.

Forward isn't a bad thing if the midfield is still driving it forward and he has chances to score, unless it's a "I'm an idiot coach that thinks he's an elite forward" 80/20 forward time splits like Teague was doing at times.

Ultimately I think a bigger pie is better for the Blues midfield, they were blown off the park in that area last year. Dogs are a good example that a huge pie is possible with a strong and deep midfield, not that they're on that level of course and they're the anomaly for sure, but Cripps is the top dog, Walsh is the other and the rest filter in below that.

Looking at LY...

ADE: 116, 103, 97 and 96
BRI: 118, 110, 100 and 100.
CAR: 117, 86, 84 and 81
ESS: 115, 114, 93 and 87
FRE: 107, 100, 100 and 90
GWS: 107, 97, 97 and 93
GEE: 113, 104, 101 and 99.
GC: 125, 101, 90 and 90
MEL: 124, 111, 87 and 83 (Ruck at 120 though)
PA: 113, 106, 93 and 87
STK: 126, 93, 92 and 90
SYD: 112, 109, 93 and 77 (you can see why Heeney should play mid
WBD: 129, 120, 103 and 103.

Basically if you're in a good side, with a good midfield, the majority have 2 guys go big and 2 guys in the solid 90s, most of those top teams had a 5th guy right about as well. Melbourne actually a weird exception albeit Gawn distorts reality there.

You'll also notice a distinct lack of the bottom sides for the most part here.

Realistically if they're all fit I think Walsh might now be their top dog but that leaves Cripps to get to that 110-115 range still while still leaving room for Cerra, Hewett and Kennedy to get their fill. Walsh may take a while to get back as well, he's never dealt with an injury before after all.

Ultimately, think the points are there if the team can take them as a whole, a big part of the positives for me is that their whole pie should be a lot bigger.

Bust factor is very high, the real part of picking Cripps is having the contingency in place. What do you do if he's a clear bust at r3, what's the plan if he's just mediocre mid 90s? What about 105? I took him last year when he was a much worse proposition but he was out of my side by round 3 for the cost of a trade. It's why getting one or two of this type of pick is manageable but filling your side with them isn't! (He says with a side full of them!)

Is this straight mids, or DPP? Because Laird was a Def/Mid and Schoenberg was Fwd only
