Btw who is your tip for breakout in 2024 @Shannon
Just on this, not so much a breakout but the guy I think that could become a genuine superstar this year providing he stays fit is Luke Davies-Uniacke. Nothing too outlandish lol, but there were games last year that I was just blown away by how powerful/ strong he was at clearances & then bursting out of congestion - reminded me a bit of Chris Judd in his prime.

Think alot will ultimately depend on how well they score in that first game, if theyve dropped a monster and it looks like being a headache to ever be able to bring them in I suspect plenty of people will adjust their starting teams accordingly.
If this happens, it will be the one benefit of R0. The seagulls all flock to whoever has done well in R0, chasing last week's points.

Smartest move will be taking it with a grain of salt, and using the Rowsus view that unless you've drastically revised a player's yearly average, it's doesn't actually help you.

E.g. You thought Jesse Hogan would average 90 for the season.
He kicks 8 goals and busts out out a 180 in Round0
If you upgrade your annual forecast to 94 based on that performance, that means for Rounds 1 to 23, he still only averages 90 (in your side) in order to average 94 for the season. And you've probably just missed out on his best score.

Not sure I agree, think you'll find most top coaches are going to be going in with an open mindset and using Round 0 as a free hit at data that we dont normally get without having to burn through trades, whether that be roles/analysing fitness levels etc, think people who dont make necessary adjustments are going to get left behind.

Getting the team balance right is obviously important but think if you go in with the mindset to essentially ignore it you're going to be in real trouble.

Jack Steele fifth in St Kilda’s 3km time trial per The Age’s Peter Ryan.
Could be a good sign that he’s in better shape than he has been previous years.
Very hard to ignore at that price tag if his body looks right.
There was an article that last year Ross has Steele slim down to meet running stamina, which hurt his inside game. This comment does not auger well when overlayed against that article.

Sounds like a audition as to who takes Zieball role. You would think Sheezel keeps his role from last year. With NRT depth in the midfield ( cannot believe I just said that) I cannot see Sheezel being moved.
Agreed.

Why you'd starve your best young talent & best distributor at HF is beyond me also.

Pinch hit in the mids, for sure, but not for large stints at HF.

Here is my conspiracy theory on Steele. He and Ross don’t hit it off. Don’t know why. Last year things were very up and down for Steele and I thought it started pre season. During the year he had a few niggles but Lyon emphatically said in June they were not the issue. With Steele struggling mid season Lyon takes Sinclair from defence to fix some midfield issues much to the despair of Def coach Corey Enright. Pre Lyon days he argued hard to get him in defence because he knew defence would suit him perfectly (on queue a 113 ave season 2022 proving Enright correct).

Lyon loves Sinclair. He is a Mr Fixit guy. Lyon asks him to do a job and he just does it. No fuss. Enright sees Lyon taking Sinclair away from defence in the future to solve a greater problem and knows he cannot argue with that. So he is happy that he has NWM (who he also asked to be part of the defence team I believe) to take over from Sinclair since his days may be numbered in that position. Hence the solid numbers NWM produced at the end of 2023 as he worked into the role and Sinclair spent time in various games elsewhere.

Meanwhile for mine the future of Steele is somewhat unknown. IMO once you are on the wrong side of Ross Lyon (if that is the case) it can be a hard road to come back. Is he heading towards becoming the next 100 ave middle of the road mid? Don’t know. Can he go back to 126 ave like 2021. I think that is unlikely.

So the plan would be I would take a Sinclair or NWM before I would consider Steele. However as Mike Tyson said “Everyone has a plan till they get punched in the face.” So it is quite possible that mid year after Steele has punched out five 130 plus scores in a row I am scrambling to get him into my mids as an upgrade:eek:!!

It’s a good point I agree they didn’t hit it off but at the best & fairest Ross did say we are going to build our midfield around Steele which I found interesting.

I think Ross has been blessed having Roo & Pav as captains in the past. Steele doesn’t come across as an alpha figure more an introvert type.

I reckon that’s why you see “cuddly Ross” these days cause I honestly think this generation couldn’t handle old Ross lol

stress fracture for Will Day, who would be next inline for his role, does Dylan Moore stocks rise for. F2..?
Good question. Hawks have a lot of players who could play Day's role (probably not as well, seeing he won the B&F last year), I'll be interested to see some reports on training match sims to see who they do go with. Hopefully he doesn't miss too many games and comes back fully fit.
