So Rd 12 byes are GC, GEE, GWS, HAW, NM and PA. Of those I'm currently considering starting, I'm probably going light that bye round now too: 3 premiums from those teams due to injury concern changes switching a few I had chosen out. Might need to look at a change there...

Would be good if Mitchell,Danger and Whitfield started slow for the Gawn owners. Would have those 3 as options maybe during the weeks people target Gawn after starting Preuss.

One thing I have noticed about many teams being posted is the shortage of premo's in Rd 12 regarding the byes. Sometimes only 2 premo's not playing rd 12 and then 6 or even 7 not playing rd 13. If this was the case for your rookie set up as you get to the byes that is probably okay. A heap play rd 12 the trade then out to pick up some premo's for rd 13 but I would rather have a 5-5-5 spread if possible for premo's. So far the best I can work in my team is 3 premo's out for rd 12.

A 2-7-4 premo bye structure could limit your choices for pre bye upgrades as you would not want to add a Bris, Carl, Ess, Rich, WC or WB to the Rd 13 pain you already have.
Byes are really hard to plan. I think you do your best to have a bit of balance. 8 isn't bad if you've got solid balance but it becomes hard if they're all mids for example.

Ultimately though you can't plan for at least half of who your upgrade targets will be and you have to take them when the present. I try and plan byes a couple of weeks out, basically making sure I'm not looking at donuts and if I am then I will compromise to avoid. Reality is that the bye should be at most a tie breaker and never more for starting picks, imo.

I've settled on this lineup before the 1 week of practice matches. With only 1 official practice i'm hoping sides will play close to their best teams otherwise could be lots of last minute changes at team selection for rnd 1.

D: Lloyd, Laird, Daniel, Mills, Jones, Gould (Worrell, Wehr)
M: Neale, Oliver, JKelly, Cripps, TKelly, Rowell, Phillips, Cockatoo (Bianco, Valente, Downie)
R: Grundy, Preuss (Treacy)
F: Sidebottom, Ziebell, Daniher, Impey, Campbell, Cahill (Macrae, Rowe)

Gone light in the forwards as this is where i think most of the value will be. Thoughts?

ok the countdown continues to round 1, here is another version of my team. 😜

My immediate thought before looking at detail is that you have 3 non rookie selections from each of two teams - Carlton & Melbourne. I just feel with the dark COVID cloud that could rain down on us without warning like it did with the Essendon Melbourne game last year that a safer option might be to spread the non rookies across more teams.

Keep having fun messing around but keep ending up back at this.
Rowell can be changed with DPP options to bring in Def or Fwd if needed.

You mentioned a few posts above that you had probably seen the best team posted by another member.

Well to me this is the best team I’ve seen posted.

No wonder you keep coming back to it!

thanks for pointing that out. didn't even think of that, Gawn and Oliver, Williams Cripps and Walsh will also be popular selections, not sure I could separate them. Just thinking ahead, when your teams playing well and winning games, these guys score well together. Think I'm done with some other teams midfields, Collingwood and GWS, too much competition at the doggies, Cats nah.

running the exact same structure at the moment mate

exept my premiums are a bit more expensive as my rookies suck atm

but i agree, i like this structure alot especially considering it could provide 13 keepers quite easily

Had a look myself at a few of the higher values but kept coming back to that side and will just run with this side now until rookies are named rd1.

Has anyone else considered making a more mid priced team and then hoping that the season ends up like last year and we get extra trades?
It’s a good question.

I have not seriously considered it, but you’d have to say that the chances of getting through the season without at least some border closures are low. The chances of an AFL player testing positive and a match being called off is probably lower, but not insignificant.

If that’s your view, the structure seems to accord with that nicely, and your mids and defs look great.

Personally I would seriously consider Marshall at F1. He’s cheaper than Sidey, I suspect averages more, and could provide very handy cover in the event of Preuss missing a game or two. I would not be surprised to see Mumford get some games this year.

So a 12 - 2 - 3 -5 (premo, mid pricer, premo rookie, rookie structure. $11k kitty.

Defence: I like defenders getting a role change. Laird, Mills, Williams can go premo, Harmes might, but can still go 95 and make enough $. Duggan and Cumming closely considered. McDonald, I can't go past his 2nd half of the season - can he do a Lloyd and be a super premo scoring defender? Tough to bring in Lloyd/Ryan given their R14 bye... Perhpas 1 prior? Lloyd overpriced for mine, will purchase for $550k at some point.

Mids: I'm locking in 4 best, most durable mids. Not starting Cripps/Wowell b/c shoulders.

Rucks: Preuss is the best value player in the comp IMHO, even with a tough start. Allows me to start the best mids.

Forwards: I like rucks/mids listed as forward. The most reliable versions of this are: Dunkley, (I trust his mid time will hold), Marshall easy and Dusty (yes there is low early scoring, but I don't consider it a given, unless the coach says so). The 3 premo rookies. Danger is in 30% of teams, upgrade target for mine. Redefining the no KPF rule to no KPF premo or MP player.

I see my injury risks as petty low beyond Zac/Daniher/Cockatoo 2 of which are rookies anyway with better JS than regular ones.

This pushes me out to 5 onfield rookies including cockatoo, but short on Campbell who I'd like. In theory I could be rookie free heading into the byes painting the fence most weeks into the the byes.

I'm very heavy on R14 premos/MPs with 8, very light on R12: 2. I just don't see players from: GC, GEE, GWS, HAW, NM and PA. If I need to balance it up, its probably Jelly for me.

Path to full premo Rookie> Lloyd + Harmes>Ryan/Whitfield
Rookies 4x > Titch, Jelly, and 2 of Macrae/Bont/Treloar (in that order probs)
Rucks - you get it.
Forwards: premo rookies to: Danger, potentially a fit Heeney, Sidebottom/Zorko/Walters??? These will be some of the later upgrades given their JS.

Welcome views!

heres something i just cooked up, not sure about some of them

i originally wanted t.Adams instead of Steele due to POD and hes cheaper, Dusty i see will be yet another ball and free-kick magnet and i like how houli plays plus he didnt get the good end of the stick due to covid last year

let me know what you think, bit rusty due to the long break between seasons, might've forgotten some tips and tricks, or stats about players
pretty much open to anything that will give me the edge on my h2h this year
