Can't deny that I'm not nervous as well going in without Gawn. Although, 160s against English are bread and butter for Grundy.

One small development is that Naismith now faces DK/Pittonet in Round 4 instead of Kreuzer.
I went without Grundy so I've been scared into putting Gawn in now. I've also kept about $200k in the kitty so if need be can go Lynch down to a rookie priced fwd, mid or def; and Naismith up to Grundy.
Completely misread the ruck situation for the shorter games, and while it hurts me this round I'm lucky it was only game 2 and I can adjust my team accordingly

I’m in the Naismith R2 camp, and was starting ceglar up fwd in case Naismith was injured or even dropped in favor of Sinclair.

Kruezer injury means pittonet / de Koning should be a bailout option for Naismith missing so now I’m not sure ceglar is as relevant. He was my least confident pick as no premium history to suggest he will step up.

Anyone else rethinking the need for R/f ruck cover ?

Dropped my ruck cover as soon as season was shortened. Can easily trade out of trouble now. Not starting Gawn vs Nicnat but am already looking at maybe bringing him in as esky as next week.

Treating it like NBA DT (I’ve never played AFL DT).

Pittonet has a very positive write up in Prospectus 2020
  • Pittonent averaged the third most SC points of any VFL ruckman to play at least 5 games.
  • Rated elite for disposals, CPs and clearances - ranking No.1 at Box Hill for clerances per game.
  • Won the third most HOs across the VFL and recorded the ninth-best hit out to advantage rate of the top 25 hitout winners.
  • From his two AFL games had a HOW% of 45.8% and HOTA% of 14.0 (AFL average is 44.8 HOW% and 12.9 HOTA%)

Preseason yes, but De Koning looked good M2. I'd say Pittonet just based on experience.
Thanks for the quick reply - do you mean that Pittonet likely gets the nod, but that it's close? Maybe they give both a crack over this season?

I'm basically wondering whether (1) we will have a good cheap #1 ruck playing each game for Carlton, and (2) it's definitely Pitonet! :)

I am after some advice please ...

I decided to take a risk and go Nic Nat and Naismith in rucks to be a bit PODish and try and get some value.

After Grundy scarred the bejesus out of me last night, I decided to switch things around in my team so I now have Gawn instead of Nic Nat, and I have set my team so that I can grab Grundy next week by removing poorer performed breakout attempts!

With rucks appearing to be going OK, and Naismith looking good to half time, I feel that I should be keeping him on field ahead of other rookies next week, therefore bringing in Grundy may not be a good move now.

Therefore, I am now also worried that Nic Nat v Gawn will nullify each other’s usual positive hitout to advantage. So should I now be looking for value from my R1 as well? I am wondering if I should now take a punt on Jacobs and spend the money saved elsewhere to get another rookie off field? This could still enable me to get Grundy or Gawn next week if required while keeping Naismith.

I hope that makes sense ... Thoughts very much appreciated.

Blues fans, how clear is it that Pittonet is the number one ruck ahead of De Kooning (or anyone else at Carlton)?
Tough one tbh, I think Pittonet will almost certainly play round 2 but TDK is who Carlton rate very very highly and is the future of the club so I wouldn’t be surprised if he plays a fair few games this season. The problem is he still has a pretty light frame and bit to learn so I think especially early in the season Carlton will go with Pittonet due to being in the system a little bit longer and having a much more mature body. Could potentially see both play but very unlikely if McKay is back soon.

Thanks mate, very helpful.

Seems like one to wait and see on, can always grab one of them after R2 once we have more info.

Depending on how Nic Nat and Sauce go (and obviously Corona) i will consider getting both, Pittonet as R2 and TDK R3. Would get Pittonet first and if there is no 2nd trade i need to use one week i will get TDK. But With Naismith going great that now adds another alternative at the same price

I'm not sure I fully understand this, but I wouldn't be picking a gun ruck based on your expected round 1 scores, if that's what you're meaning.

Also I'm not sure there's any reason to think rucks will score better or worse at this stage. Grundy always smashes the Dogs and Kreuzer got injured early on.

I'd play with a straight bat unless you're confident.

You may even have a Pittonet or De Kooning option, albeit their security in th lead ruck role may not be great (see above!).

Thanks Darkie. I appreciate your opinion even though my question wasn’t clear!

Yeah was think Pittonet gets the nod. Areobicly De Koning is better, but we need a hard body doing the ruckwork and he's not bad around the ground, Pittonet.
