Big Russ, a side with 15 keepers and maybe Mitchell as a 16th coupled with some v. good rookies as we know them now, this is a beaut. side. I like Johnson in the backline. Could be a great kick off for you. Set and forget rucks, both have the rd.13 bye, but that will be light years away at kick off.

Getting a full deck in the mids may prove difficult but with enough DPP FWD/MID's around, nice.
That team does look great but I believe Russ has already counted Mitchell as one of the 15 premiums.

Yeah mate that one is A. Johnson.

Mitchell is counted as a premo, hard to pick someone 400k with the intent of trading them out.

I haven't really looked at the byes yet, been fairly busy lately, something Ill iron out over the coming weeks. One of Kreuzer/Berger may push out One of the rucks still. Leaning Kreuzer honestly still waiting for him to live up to expectations. 25, #1 pick ruckman he needs to fire very soon or he'll be a failure as a high draft pick.

Very solid team Russ. The only player i'm not sure of is Ward with the introduction of Griffen. I think we will see the GWS mids flatten out in terms of SC scoring output with him in their side. Ward and Treloar to drop 2-5ppg, then you have Shiel, Scully, Whitfield, Greene and Coniglio spreading the load in the midfield. That's just my opinion though.
Yeah there is always the worry a new player can upset the scoring, but there's also the chance he could enhance his scoring. The Griffin factor is really the only risk with Ward though. I'd like the extra 50k for a Selwood type but I really don't think come seasons end that there will be a big gap between the 2.

Ward for brownlow this year, heard it here first lads 😏.

Latest effort, with a little more thinking towards the Byes (for premiums that is).

Hmm, always struggled a bit with this logic. You're really comparing the 7th best mid rookie (i.e., not a Dom Tyson), who would take your M11 spot, against a ~3rd best rookie in the forward/defence lines. Sure, the mid rookie will still likely score more and make more money, but I don't think the gap is quite as pronounced as people seem to assume. I'd be comfortable with a 5-premo structure.
In terms of on field points it's the 5th best mid rookie v the 2nd best forward rookie

Last year say it was say Dunstan on field v JKH?

It's also about cash because that 5th premium mid is probably $100k more than the 5th premium forward allowing that extra mid rookie to be Dom Tyson v $100k mid rookie.

It all depends on the quality of the rookies of course but I do think easing off on the cap hit of the 5th premium mid allows for a deeper starting side. It also allows you the cash to go for the expensive rookies if that looks necessary (this can be a trap sometimes). 5 x $600K+ mids tends to force you into $100K rookie territory. I know those who skipped Tyson last year because he was too expensive regretted it later. He was like a $450K value mid priced at $212K = great value. Arguably better value than a $600K mid depending on what you did with the spare $400K.

All that said, it all completely depends on the rookie crop available in each year.

V2

DEF: B. Smith, M. Hibberd, G. Birchall, B. Waters, S. Edwards, M. Fuller (H. Goddard, B. Maynard)
MID: G. Ablett jnr, S. Pendlebury, J. Selwood, R. Sloane, P. Dangerfield, I. Heeney, B. Boekhorst, A. Vandenberg (N. Freeman, N. O'Brien, N. Krakouer)
RUC: N. Naitanui, M. Leuenberger (T. Read)
FWD: B. Deledio, B. Goddard, D. Martin, D. Swan, T. Bellchambers, M. Clark (J. Hogan, J. Steele)
CASH LEFT: $20,100

13 Keepers

Byes are 3/4/1 - 3/5/3 - 1/0/2 - 2/3/3 = 9/12/9 so pretty happy with that for now.

Not 100% sold on Sloane and Smith yet as I’m not sure how a new coach will affect them..

I said I wasnt going to touch this until the preseason games but on holidays so ended up having a play lol.

Shaw, Hibberd, Birchall, Waters, Ibbotson, Moore (Goddard, Maynard)

Ablett, Pendlebury, Fyfe, Griffen, Steven, Rich, Heeney, Boekhorst (Vandenberg, Laverde, Freeman)

Goldstein, Naitanui (Nankervis)

Swan, Deledio, Goddard, Clark, Saad, Hogan (Steele, Daniel)

Ibbotson and Rich are equity in my loan lol. Selling them to a rookie I'm sure on can give me funds to get Jacobs in or improve Rich/Steven.

Hi Fluffy
Allow me to explain. This is just what I said that I was comfortable with doing. By all means you should get that 5th premium mid if that's what you are comfortable with. However you said that the M11 would have to be compared to the 3rd best defence rookie, but I think you really should be comparing the 5th best defence rookie overall with the M11 tbh. There was a lack of back rookies in 2014 who were able to generate cash. The following is a list of all defence rookies that played from round 1 onwards along with their first score plus a little description of how much cash they made before their bye rounds.

Rookie Defenders from Round 1
Tom Langdon - 111: GOOD. Made $194k before his bye round.
Will Langford - 77: GOOD. Made $158k before his bye round.
Jeremy Laidler - 95: He had a high starting price and he missed his 2nd game despite being the top scorer for the whole of the Sydney Team. Made $115k before his bye round.
Luke McDonald - 48: Had a high starting price. Made $111k before his bye round.
Alexis Georgiou - 66: Played the first 7 games (his only 7 games of AFL) at an average of 45 so did not generate much cash. Made $83k before his bye round.

[The following rookies didn't play much]
Clay Cameron - 50: Played his first 4 games for an average of 44 points a game and did not play his next game until round 11. Made $29k
Tom Clurey - 31: This was his first and last game of 2014 so he did not generate any cash for any of the poor souls who started him.
Brodie Martin - 42: Played as the starting sub in round 7 and then didn't play another game until round 9. So he did not generate any cash before his bye round, in fact he lost $800 after his 3rd game.

Rookie Midfielders from Round 1
Jared Polec- 107: Made $274k
Dom Tyson - 111: Made $241k
Luke Dunstan - 100: Made $194k
Jamie Bennell - 68: Made $180k
James Aish - 61: Made $173k
Harry Cunningham - 66: Made $159k
Martin Gleeson - 59: Made $149k 7 games
Xavier Ellis - 66: Made $120k

[Others rookies who played round 1]
David Ellard - 120
Josh Saunders - 112
Viv Michie - 61
Eli Templeton - 44
Sean Lemmens - 37
Brad McKenzie - 35
Derick Wanganeen - 11
Jack Martin - 9
Dom Sheed - 7

As you can see even if I compared the the 3rd best defence rookie Laidler with the 7th best mid rookie Gleeson. Gleeson beats laidler on cash generation even though it wasn't much. But you really should be comparing the D8 with M11 which is about $66k which is almost double what Georgiou made. Also Georgiou didnt have much job security and couldn't make his way back into the squad. In a sense Georigou became dead weight and didn't make a hell of a lot. Gleeson ended up getting injured but had made a decent amount of cash by then.

So for example if this format was for last year it wud be something like this:
D5 Langdon, D6 Langford, (D7 Laidler, Lmac)
M4 Polec, M5 Tyson, M6 Dunstan, D7 Bennell, M8 Aish (M9 Cunningham, M10 Gleeson, M11 Ellis)

Of course this was only for 2014 so if more defence rookies pop up during the preseason, it would sway my decision but for now 4 premium mids & 7 rookies for me it is.

Hey guys, it's been a while. Wasn't sure I was gonna commit for another season but couldn't resist. This is my initial draft.

My team, Version 167 and counting

Def: Smith, Hibberd, Hurn, Newnes, Muddy Waters, edwards (Goddard, Newman)
Mid: Gaz, Pendles, Danger, Griff, Vandenburg, Boekhurst, Heeney, Freeman, (Laverde, Meckenzie, Krakouer)
Ruck: Goldy, Nic Nat (anyone, but it's Nankervis at the moment)
Fwd: Lids, Buddy, Dusty, Swan, Mitchell, Clark (Hogan, Steele)

$26,200 left
Def - We all hope Smith gets midfield time. Hibberd has dumped some kilos so maybe less chance of a soft tissue (though it doesn't work for Michael Clark...) Hurn has the captaincy and extra responsibility. Newnes for a breakout. Muddy, well the name says it all but hes my injury good luck story this year. Rooks

Mids - Gaz and Pendles. Likley top 3 average by years end, they're simply locks. Danger - underpriced I reckon, and imo a better scorer than Sloane. Griffen - has a point to prove, and I hope he's not injured. Rooks

Rucks - Set and forget, though I toyed with Leuenberger for cash. Still tempted

Fwd - I see huge upsides for Swan and Mitchell. Hogan - well I liked the look of him in the pre season game last year. Reckon he might tear a few sides a new one.

Byes are 5, 15 and 10 for the minute but that's no problem (Round 12 includes 8 rookies who won't all be there after 11 games)

More versions to come no doubt :)

If your baby arrives on the due date, feel free to name him Rowsus. We will share a birthday, after all. :p
