Australia going into the World Cup without a second keeper. If Wade is out injured Maxwell and Warner are the keeping options so maybe the Stars do have another keeper!!
Apparently the rules say you can't replace any injured player if the injury occurs on match days.

Warner was training with the gloves on today , Finch has kept in the BBL before (as a replacement)

Funny thing during the Stars "Road to the Draft" , Maxwell said he would probably have to keep if Clarke got injured during the game otherwise they would just call up a local keeper from what city they were in , surely they must have another keeper training/travelling with them just in case.

Long time ago Starc was a keeper.

I remember years ago Boon keeping in a 50 over World Cup a few times.

Dravid kept for India at times.

Thanks for that interesting info!

The wicketkeepers have got me spooked!

Strikers: Carey likely to be in the test squad and Neilson to bat too low to have any value even at his low price.

Heat: Billings not likely to be around early and Peirson in the Neilson camp.

Hurricanes: I can’t justify investing so much money on McDerrmott that could be spent on other guns who have early doubles. Wade is the best value of the potential top scoring keepers which makes him attractive. The decision to start him v avoiding him due to no early double could be defining.

Renegades: I think Harper should hold value and therefore a startable option to hold through to his R5 double. However the Sixers also have the double that round and they have a much better option.

Stars: Clarke is a tough one. I would lock him in for his R1 double, but his price means that I would want to cash him for a DGR player for his bye in R2. Unless I start 3 wicketkeepers it will be a wasted trade as I would prefer to target Scorchers non wicketkeepers that round.

Sixers: Phillippe is a gun that I will target for his R5 double. I think he is too pricey to start and would prefer to have him as part of my DGR rollovers.

Thunder: I think Gilkes will bat higher than Holt, so the more likely option between the two for me to start if he is selected.

Scorchers: Inglis looks value if he is available. It is just the unknown where he or Bancroft bat as to whether value for either is there.

My preference would be to start both Gilkes and Clarke, but would need a donut to use the keeper position as a loop and be able to trade Clarke to a batter or bowler in R2. Problem is I won’t be able to use a Perth keeper as the R1 loop as that puts both my keepers on the double in R2 and therefore one would be stuck on the bench!

Can we have a $42k wicketkeeper please SC?

Great summary. Without the 42k keeper it’ll be a very tough decision for the reasons you’ve mentioned.

What's the concern with Billings ? not in England's Test Squad or the Lions Squad (Jamie Smith is the only keeper named)

Will only be flown to Pakistan if Foakes is out long term otherwise Duckett or Pope will provide cover as per McCullum

Heat bye Round 2 could cause concerns though if you are planning on benching Stoinis & Zampa as well

OK .. my bad - I thought he wasn’t available early! Awkward price, but could therefore be an option to switch Clarke to in R2 given his R3 double if we want to death ride Scorchers and get ahead on Heat.

All good (think you can be forgiven 😀)

Billings has a ILT 20 contract.

I don't mind the starting Clarke option as he then becomes a trade out option in Round 2 (along with Boult & Maxy most likely) , just don't think I will have the $ to start him.

I will just take Nielsen as WK2 (unless they drop Carey) , at least he will play and provide some sort of cover if needed.

Inglis availability is the big spanner in the works , if he is in the Test Squad for the first South Africa Test (Dec 17-21) he won't be playing for the Scorchers on December 17th.

If Gilkes doesn't open his appeal lessens even with back-to-back DGR.

Wade certainly offers value but then has the Round 5 bye so would need to be benched.

Think the last time Paine played he was priced at $90k ish maybe if he is signed he will be $ 62,5 k (does he even play though ?)

Surely someone picks up Handscomb (Ave 20.5 last season so around $ 62,5)

Still waiting for Scott Edwards to be given a contract.

My current setup (fwiw) is :-

Gilkes / Nielsen
/ Inglis or Peirson

Do like the flexibility 3 Bat/WK offers.

Philippe currently at 40% ownership

Nielsen 30%

McDermott & Inglis 26%

Not sure how people are fitting in McDermott with Rashid , Maxy , Boult & Sams though + Willey
The top 16 owned players will cost almost $200k more than the salary cap, so must be a few X v Y’s of the higher priced players.

Wade and Inglis take the cake on potential matches played - 18 - and the combo comes at a decent price. But I'd be very surprised if the max number of matches prevails at the end of the season. Probably need to work the combo numbers and see what gets close to 18. Probably wouldn't want to be giving up 3 games, but minimum 16 with whoever becomes #1 probably wins the race.

Interesting to look at

M Short is 24% , D Short 33%.

Boult is only 19% (maybe my biasm of him is clouding my thinking)

Labuschagne 4% , Warner 5% , Livingstone 😤 11%

Having said that, from a value perspective they do make sense, it’s just that the captaincy factor comes into play with the higher priced WK’s.
I wonder how often we would captain a wicketkeeper though? I guess jagging a good VC score is what’s more likely so mightn’t be a huge thing to consider.

Really like the Billings shout. Not one I’d considered but he rotates with Inglis well, and there’s a few heat guys appealing on the double - Munro, Billings, Bazley, Neser, Stek, Bartlett. Combine games against a Livingstone-less gades and Strikers - 2 of the weaker sides imo.

Cazalys stadium I see is in cairns, we know much about dimensions? One of the small more suburban grounds?

I feel like it’s more common in IPL because many of the keepers are elite batsmen and a number of them open/bat at three and can go huge.

In BBL I recall doing it with Philippe a bit, and probably should have done it with McDermott a bit more, but it feels like a much shallower pool.

Looks like 165 x 135 (AFL dimensions):

https://australianfootball.com/grounds/detail/Cazaly%27s+Stadium/43

Seems to be longer than the SCG, and narrower than the MCG but wider than Adelaide.

There’s probably less variation in overall size across the major grounds than I would have guessed, and Cazaly is in that range.
